This movie is basically a 2-hour martial arts fight scene, but I'm not complaining - the movie is just a bunch of fun. It's shot with much more competence than many of its kung-fu peers of the time - the images look very nice for the era. I don't know if this is because this movie had a higher budget than most kung-fu films at the time, but the fact remains.
The choreography is just spectacular, and one wouldn't expect anything less from Woo-ping, which is why he is the go-to guy for martial arts action sequences in Hollywood today - because he's quite simply the master. There is a lot of slapsticky humor, and much of it falls flat, but it is overlookable because the movie is just so enjoyable, and there are actually a few laugh out loud moments. Watching this movie it is easy to see that Jackie Chan was destined for stardom - he has a lot of sceen presence, in a kung-fu capacity at least.
