Spielberg grows up.
Far and away his most mature film to date, and certainly the best of his 'serious' films. This movie is everything you would expect a Spielberg film not to be. Dark, violent, distant, and raises questions but gives no answers. This movie not only evenly explores the events in Munich, but the relationship between a man and his family, a man and his country, and a man and violence. It's suprisingly balanced, and is just impressive to behold. Beyond that, even if the film wasn't based on true events, it would still work just as well as a fictional thriller. It's incredibly well crafted.
It's technical achievements are also terriffic. The visuals are very innovative, and a pleasure to the eyes. The acting is solid all around but Eric Bana is fucking incredible here. His face shows pure human emotion, nothing that isn't real.
The only problem with the film is it is a bit long, but it's hard to fault it when everything else is so great, and especially so when one considers the short timeframe that it was put together in.
