This isn't the best cop movie ever, but I like it. It has a certain charm to it, brought by the cast, who are all pretty good, and the terribly dated 80's score. Some of the subplots, like the girlfriend to Sean Penn's girlfriend, don't really go anywhere and could have been cut. Also, it seemed like it couldn't seem to quite figure out what it was about.
For some reason that I have a hard time putting a finger on, I still rather enjoy it. Maybe it's because I like Robert Duvall and his character was very likeable. Maybe it's the humor thats interspersed throughout the movie. I don't know.
