Murderball (2005)

Dir: Henry Alex Rubin Dana Adam Shapiro
IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436613/

This was excellent. One of the best films of this year for sure, and it better be nominated for the Best Documentary oscar.

The subjects of this film, wheelchair rugby players, are a fairly obscure topic, but the filmmakers make us connect with them on such an incredible level. It doesn't pander because of their disabilities, it just paints them as normal human beings like any of us, that just happen to play a very interesting sport.

I think my favorite part of the film is when Keith, a recently injured quadrapalegic, is visited by one of Team USA's players, who educates him on the sport. You see him go from feeling terrible and detached from life to being really interested and full of desire to play this sport. It's incredibly uplifting.
