What an incredibly powerful film. Roger Ebert was completely justified in calling it the best picture of the decade.
This documentary just so perfectly captures the struggles of inner city life, the chasing of dreams, and being manipulated by the systems, its hard not to be moved. If anyone can't empathize with the kids that this movie takes its sweet time chronicling the lives of, then I would have to say they are terribly cold hearted (or are a neo-conservative republican-zing).
This is one of the most amazing achievements in any type of film, not just documentary filmmaking. It has such a broad appeal and range, its just a terrifically human picture that gives us a better understanding of each other when we are done viewing it, and thats as much as any film can hope for.
